War and Peace

A war cannot achieve what peace can. The forces of peace can rule over ignorance and superstition, over illiteracy and immorality, over disease and physical suffering, over poverty and governmental oppression.

The conquests of peace are nonviolent and bloodless. They cause no grief to humanity and do not damage life or property.

War causes streams of blood and untold havoc. Only the victories of peace leave no maimed limbs or mutilated bodies, no ruined cities or scorched fields.

World Peace is something that will never happen. Too many countries have too much military power and don’t want to give in to any other country.

War is something that the world is going to have to deal with because there has been very few years over the history of the world that have been war free.

Even a superficial glance at the course of the two world wars will tell us that their victories were gained at an incalculable cost.

The triumph of the First World War proved to be of a short duration. The victory itself sowed, in fact, the seeds of the Second World War.

Peace cannot be created with violence. Some might look to World War II as an example which contradicts that statement. But in fact it does not.

During World War II, America created war, not peace. It was after World War II that peace was created.

War never creates peace, and peace never creates war. When America went to war in Korea, they created war. And the 38th parallel has not seen peace in 50 years.

Then America created war in Vietnam. Peace did not occur until after America left. For there to be peace, all war must stop. Then there will be peace.

Modern people are threatened by the dreadful inventions of science. But this actual threat is coming not from science but from war, in which the power of science is abused.

It is one thing to keep a nation strong and vigorous and save it, it is another thing to infuse a wanton spirit of aggression and destruction into it.

The modern nations must truly realize in their heart the full significance of the teaching – ‘For all they that take to the sword, shall perish with the sword’. Then and then only shall peace reign in the world.

So grim are the horrors of war and so devastating its effects that no defence of it on any ground whatsoever is possible.
