Diagnosis of the condition

Despite these symptoms stated above, one can accurately determine the condition only through proper diagnosis. The procedure is done through testing the glucose levels in the blood prior to food consumption and after food too. The normal ranges of the glucose level in fasting is expected to be <110 mg/dL. The tests done after 2 hours of food consumption have normal ranges at <140 mg/dL. The increase of test values from these normal ranges indicates the presence of diabetes in the body.

Prevention and Management of Diabetes

It is believed that there is no specific method or care to prevent Type 1 Diabetes. However Type 2 Diabetes can be prevented by maintaining a healthy diet, engaging in good physical activity and thereby leading to maintain a normal body weight. Obesity can be a straight cause to Type 2 Diabetes.

Once diagnosed, the condition of Diabetes Mellitus is chronic and hence is going to be life-long. As the implications of the disease is high, it is always important to maintain the glucose levels at the optimal range by proper diet, medication and exercise. Habits such as smoking, alcoholism may aggravate the conditions and hence is suggested to be avoided. A close watch on the functioning of the body with respect to other organs such as kidney, eyes, liver and the heart is mandatory for diabetic patients as there is risk of diseases associated with diabetes in these organs.
